Young Leader with a Global Vision: Interview with Aleksa Tošić on the International Labor Market and the Future Workforce in Serbia

Please introduce yourself – who is Aleksa Tošić?
I am a director and work in human resources management. I have always been motivated to work with people. My passion for developing international cooperation and managing teams brought me to the position I hold today.

What attracted you to work related to people and the international labor market?
I am interested in different cultures and ways of working, and international markets allow for constant learning and growth. I believe it is important to have a global perspective in today’s connected world.

What is the most difficult and the most interesting part of leading a team and processes at such a young age?
The most difficult part is earning the team’s trust, as people often doubt younger leaders. The most interesting part is managing dynamic teams where each member has their own unique story and motivation.

What exactly does your company do, and what does “attracting workforce” mean?
Our company employs foreign workers and helps employers find suitable personnel. “Attracting workforce” means bringing in talent from other countries who possess specific skills needed by the market.

From which countries do the workers you bring to Serbia most often come, and in which sectors do they work?
Workers mostly come from India, Bangladesh, and Nepal and are employed in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. These sectors often require specific skills that are hard to find locally.

What do you think is most important for this model to work well – trust, organization, contacts, or something else?
Trust and organization are key to success. A good system requires constant coordination and transparency between all parties.

How does your company differ from others in the same business?
Our company stands out because we focus on building long-term relationships with foreign workers and employers. In addition, we provide full support for workers’ adaptation to the new environment.

What challenges do you face most often when working with people from different countries and cultures?
The biggest challenge is cultural differences and adapting to different norms and expectations. Language barriers can also slow communication, but with proper preparation, they can be overcome.

Has there been a project that stands out in your memory – for example, a difficult project that was successfully completed?
One of the most challenging projects was hiring workers for an infrastructure project that required coordination across several countries. In the end, everything went smoothly, and it was a major professional success for me.

What do you consider your team’s greatest achievement so far?
The team’s greatest achievement is completing several large projects with workers from different countries who integrated perfectly into the work environment. This demonstrates a high level of efficiency and collaboration.

How do Serbian employers receive foreign workers?
Serbian employers are becoming increasingly open to foreign workers, especially in industries requiring specific skills. However, there is still a need for education on the benefits of hiring foreigners.

How do you help people coming from abroad adapt and feel comfortable in a new environment?
We assist them through various trainings and support in adapting to the new culture and work environment. We also organize social activities to help them integrate more effectively.

Have you noticed a change in people’s attitudes toward foreign workers in recent years?
Yes, the attitude toward foreign workers has changed – we are becoming more open to different cultures and work styles. Hiring foreigners has become common and even desirable in many industries.

What are your goals for the next few years – both personal and professional?
My goal is to expand the company into new markets and improve our services. Personally, I want to continue learning and developing my managerial skills.

How do you see the future of the labor market in Serbia – will the need for foreign workers grow?
The labor market in Serbia will continue to develop, and the demand for foreign workers will grow, especially in sectors that require specific skills. I expect more and more companies will recognize the advantages of an international workforce.

Do you have plans for expansion – for example, cooperation with new countries or entering new sectors?
We plan to expand into new markets and are also considering entering new sectors such as healthcare and technology. Our goal is to become a leader in this field.

What gives you the greatest satisfaction in this work?
The greatest satisfaction comes from seeing our workers successfully integrate and contribute in the workplace. Additionally, it is fulfilling to contribute to the development of international cooperation and open new business opportunities.

How do you maintain a balance between personal life and the responsibilities of being a director?
I maintain balance by planning my time carefully and setting priorities. It is also important to have time for myself and my loved ones, as it contributes to personal satisfaction and productivity.

What qualities do you think a young person needs to succeed today?
A young person should be resourceful, open to new ideas, and ready to learn. It is also important to recognize opportunities and be persistent in achieving goals.

Finally – what advice would you give to other young people who are unsure about taking the path of entrepreneurship?
I would tell them not to be afraid to take risks and to believe in themselves. Entrepreneurship brings many challenges, but also great satisfaction and the opportunity to leave a lasting impact.
