Residence Cards

Permanent Residence Card

Validity Period: 5 years.

Processing Time: 4 months from the date of application submission.

Issued Bulgarian ID Number (EGN)

This card is issued by the Migration Agency after the issuance of a D visa or upon reaching the necessary residence duration. It serves as identification in Bulgaria. It grants all rights to the holder that Bulgarian citizens have, except for the right to vote.

In many European countries, holders of this card have the right to work and be insured abroad.


Permanent Residence Card

The permanent residence card in Bulgaria allows foreign citizens to reside indefinitely and move freely within the country. This category is suitable for candidates who have already established permanent ties with Bulgaria and meet certain legal requirements.

Conditions for Obtaining

The right to permanent residence may be granted to:

  • Individuals with long-term residence in Bulgaria – Candidates must have legally resided in the country for several years (depending on the category of their previous cards).
  • Individuals of Bulgarian descent – Foreign citizens with Bulgarian roots or relatives can apply for permanent residence.
  • Special categories – Includes candidates with economic investments in the country, business interests, and other grounds.
